In the early 2001, Panda formed a consortium with Thales, a French Group among the world top 500 enterprises for the successful lunch of non-contact smart card ticketing system for Nanjing Metro. In October 2003, Nanjing Thales Panda transport system Co., Ltd. was established, marked a further step forward between the co-operation of the two companies.

This joint venture with 60 % capital injection by Thales and 40% by Panda depends on the leading AFC technology owned by Thales and manufacturing experiences and market understanding by Panda, will provide the design and adjustment of smart card auto ticketing system for Chinese market. The venture will finally develop into a production center of auto ticketing system of Thales in Asia. The development of key technology originated in French. The local second development can ensure the advancement and reliability of the joint venture’s products.

Great performance has been achieved in the market exploration by Nanjing Thales Panda transport system. After the successful implement of the NO.1 AFC of Nanjing Metro by the consortium, the joint venture has won the bidding for AFC system for No.1 and No.2 lines of Beijing Metro and united transport line. At present, the Taiwan high speed railway, reconstruction of Taibei old subway, New Dehi subway in India, the design of AFC system for Bangkok, all those projects will need 1876 ticketing machine, 3768 gate machine. This joint venture relying on its advanced technology, will surely make great contributions in the AFC system in China and Asia.
